Bespoke software by virtuetech
The software that never used to pay off.
Now up to two thirds cheaper.
Bespoke software used to be far too expensive. Thanks to AI-assisted development, over time it can now even cost less than off-the-shelf software. Planned, reviewed and owned by a team with more than 50 years of combined experience.
"Up to two thirds": compared with classic development without AI, based on our project experience. Comparison with off-the-shelf software: total cost over several years including licence fees, depending on the project and number of users. Details
The Henry Ford Moment
Bespoke software –
finally affordable.
Bespoke software used to be a luxury: so expensive that off-the-shelf software was almost always the sensible choice – with all its compromises. As software developers, that often frustrated us. Now that's changing.
In 1908, a Ford Model T cost more than 800 dollars. Then came the assembly line: building one took 93 minutes instead of 12.5 hours, and by 1925 the car cost just 260 dollars – around 70 percent less. Suddenly, almost everyone could afford a car.
The same thing is happening in software development. AI takes over much of the routine work, while experienced developers plan, review and take responsibility for the result. That's how bespoke software now gets built for a fraction of the former effort.
We're thrilled: at last we can offer bespoke software at prices that compete with off-the-shelf software – and over time can even beat it. Without its usual compromises:
- You adapt your processes to the software instead of the other way round.
- You pay for lots of features you never use – and the one you need is missing.
- Per-user licence fees keep running every month, price increases included.
- Interfaces to your other systems are missing or cost extra.
- You depend on the vendor: they decide what changes, what gets discontinued and how you get your data out.
- 1908 $800+ Ford Model T – out of reach for most people
- 1913 93 minutes instead of 12.5 hours of assembly – thanks to the assembly line
- 1925 $260 around 70% cheaper – a car for almost everyone
- Today up to ⅔ cheaper Bespoke software through AI-assisted development – custom-built software for almost any business

What this means for your budget.
Same project, same scope, same care – just with AI at the workbench.
And compared with off-the-shelf software?
Off-the-shelf software looks cheap because the costs come in small amounts – every month, for every user. Add it up:
20 users × €40 licence per month = €9,600 per year – €28,800 after three years, and the costs keep running.
With bespoke software, you pay once for the development. Operation and maintenance come on top, and we quote them transparently up front – but there's no fee per seat and no vendor price increases.
Illustrative examples, not a quote. "Up to two thirds cheaper" compares our effort with AI-assisted development against the effort of classic development without AI, based on our own projects and estimates. The comparison with off-the-shelf software looks at total cost over several years; the licence cost in the example is an assumed ballpark for subscription business software, and your actual costs depend on vendor, plan and number of users. How much you actually save depends on the project – after the initial call, we give you a fixed price or a clear budget.
AI for the routine
Forms, databases, interfaces, tests: much of this is now written by AI. That saves time – and that time is no longer on your bill.
Experience for the quality
More than 50 years of combined experience: we design the architecture, review the code and take responsibility for the result. AI is the tool – the responsibility stays with us.
Your software, your rules
No licence fee per seat, no vendor dictating your processes. We build on open standards so you stay independent.
Sound familiar?
Typical cases that pay off now.
Much of what used to be too expensive for bespoke software is worth it today.
We build an application that keeps all your data in one place: with input forms, permissions for your team and reports at the click of a button. We migrate your existing sheets – nobody has to retype anything.
An interface connects your systems, for example your shop, inventory management and accounting. Data flows automatically, and errors from double entry disappear.
Then we build it – exactly for your processes. What only large companies could afford before is now within reach for small businesses and niche markets too.
We replace the legacy system step by step, migrate your data and keep what has proven itself. With AI, even understanding old code is much faster than it used to be.
Take that quote out of the drawer. We'll look at it and tell you honestly what the project would cost today.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The biggest cost in software projects is development time. AI now handles much of the routine work, in minutes rather than days. Our developers focus on architecture, business logic and quality. You pay for fewer hours, not for less care.
Not always – but far more often than it used to be. Off-the-shelf software charges licence fees per user, every month and usually with rising prices. With bespoke software, you pay once for the development, plus operation and maintenance. The more users and the longer you use it, the sooner your own solution pays off. That's why every project starts with a look at off-the-shelf software too, and we compare both options for you: costs, pros and cons. Only then do you decide – and if off-the-shelf software fits better, we'll tell you.
No. AI and people are strongest as a team: the AI writes fast, our developers plan, review and test. Code reviews, automated tests and clean architecture are standard for us – with or without AI.
That depends on the scope. After the free initial call, we give you a fixed price or a clear budget before we start. Ongoing costs such as hosting or maintenance are itemised transparently beforehand.
Especially for them. Bespoke software used to pay off only above a certain company size. Today, even a small internal tool that saves your team hours every week is affordable.
No. Often the best solution is a combination: off-the-shelf software where it fits well, and bespoke add-ons or interfaces where it doesn't. We'll tell you honestly what is worth it for you.
Then you've already laid the foundation: clean data and interfaces are what make AI genuinely useful in a business. Find out more on our AI Solutions page.
